An incredibly meaningful artwork has been unveiled at our SWH South West Centre Against Sexual Assault. Proud Keerray Woorroong indigenous artist Sherry Johnstone designed and painted Tree of Trust; commissioned and gifted by one of our former SW CASA managers Mary Clapham. Both Sherry and Mary presented the piece to staff at SW CASA, along with a framed explanation. The pair will proudly hang side-by-side in our CASA waiting room.

Tree of Trust is soothing and inspiring and will mean many things to many of the people our CASA team works with, and for our CASA team, themselves.

In Sherry’s words, here’s what Tree of Trust means to her:

‘The sun behind the tree represents CASA as a gathering place, shining some light Into the darkness for the victims of sexual assault.

‘The tree of people represents reaching out, making connections through support, helping build trust and confidence to gain strength, to help you and others to stand strong like a tall tree.

The love heart leaves represent feeling loved and showing that people care. By using support services such as CASA, they can make a difference in victims’ lives.

‘The circles in the lines coming out from the sun representing stepping-stones in victim’s journeys, as they take one step at a time towards healing.

‘The shield in the middle of the tree represents safety and protection, as CASA helps their clients to feel supported in a safe environment.

‘The flower in the top right-hand corner represents victims being able to grow and blossom again as they move forward.’

We thank both Mary and Sherry for this beautiful gift.
