SWH donates 1000 meals to Food Share Warrnambool

Monday, 28 Feb 2022

Over the next fortnight SWH will be donating 1,000 meals to Food Share Warrnambool.

SWH Food Services Manager Craig McLeod, Executive Director Food Share Warrnambool Amanda Hennesy, and SWH Executive Chef Brendan Cooke at the Food Share warehouse.

Today Food Services Manager Craig McLeod and Executive Chef Brendan Cooke delivered the first 150 meals to the charity, which will be distributed to their partner organisations.

Each weekday, Food Share volunteers collect food donations from supermarkets and other food retailers. Donated food is made into Hampers for welfare agencies to distribute to families or individuals who require emergency food assistance. Food collected is healthy and nutritious and is either end of line, mislabelled, or overrun stock.

Food is made available to the elderly, unemployed, low income and vulnerable families primarily.

The Food Share Schools Fresh Program also offers fresh fruit to local schools for healthy eating programs, breakfast clubs, chaplaincy work etc.

Warrnambool Food Share also provide food to two local churches who run a weekly free soup kitchen.

Food Share is supported by over 50 volunteers who give their time to help with deliveries and has become an incredible part of the Warrnambool community fabric.
