Geriatric medicine is a specialty that focuses on the health and care of people over the age of 65. A Geriatrician diagnoses and treat conditions that occur during the ageing process. They help manage dementia and other cognitive problems, incontinence, nutrition and problems with mobility and frailty.
How to access this service
South West Healthcare has a Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) inpatient Unit offering multidisciplinary management of elderly patients with a range of geriatric medical problems and complex care needs.
Specialist referral is required to access these services.
