Builder appointed for $3.7M ED expansion

South West Healthcare’s Emergency Department Expansion project, due to commence construction in early 2024 will see a vital increase to the size of the existing Emergency Department that will support the ever-growing community of Warrnambool and surrounding in the lead up to the delivery of the brand new, 2500 m2 state of the art Emergency Department that will be delivered as a part of the $384.2M Warrnambool Base Hospital Redevelopment Project.

The Emergency Department expansion will deliver infrastructure upgrades and additional space within the existing emergency department and will include:

• Increase in waiting room space with separate waiting areas for adult presentations, paediatric presentations, and infectious presentations.
• Brand-new triage and reception (registration) area to include Virtual Assessment (telehealth) Hub.
• Upgrades to patient amenities including patient entertainment (televisions and children’s interactive play panel), gender neutral toilets and a disability accessible toilet.
• Additional treatment/consultation spaces, increasing from 3 to 7.
• Additional clinical write up areas for emergency department staff and users.
• Refurbishment of clinical functions including size increase of medication room.
• First nations artwork/design elements.

The appointed builder, Bowden Corporation have over two decades of experience delivering high-quality construction projects in Victoria with the expectation that the project will be completed in late 2024. During construction, service users may experience changes to entry points and patient drop off areas.
