You can self refer or have a relative or friend call for an appointment. We encourage you to also inform your GP and for them to provide your history. Referrals can also be made by your GP, surgeon or other health care providers.
Please bring a list of medical conditions and your list of medications (prescription, non-prescribed and herbal/homeopathic ). Two bags: 1 for your soiled items and 1 for any supplies that may be provided.
We suggest that if you have a wound on the leg(s) that you also bring a second set pair of shoes that can be adjusted if bandages are applied.
You are most welcomed to bring someone with you to listen and ask questions with you or to learn how to help manage your wounds.
If you require changes in wound dressings you may be requested to visit your doctor or have community nurses to assist in your care. To provide holistic care we often recommend other health care professionals to review your care and provide advice. This may require a phone call or face to face visit with a podiatrist (wound on the foot), dietician ( all wounds require extra protein for good healing), counselling (to assist with the impact that wounds can have on your life and stress and impact on wound healing), physiotherapy (falls prevention, walking aids, improved range of motion), occupational therapist (for assessment of equipment) and surgeons.
The first appointment will usually be the longest and will take 1 to 2 hours for a full assessment and treatment. We suggest that you wear loose fitting clothes and shoes. We suggest arriving early to get a park and see reception on arrival.
How the wound impacts on you and your quality of living. How you can help the wound heal. Your short and long term goals.
Referrals will be accepted from clinicians, self-referral, family and carers and specialists.
