Fracture Clinic

Fracture Clinic allows patients to attend the hospital for specialist orthopaedic review and management of their injuries.

Orthopaedics is the medical specialty that focuses on injuries and diseases of your body’s musculoskeletal system. This complex system includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves, which allow you to move, work, and be active.

The fracture clinic is a public outpatient service with no out of pocket cost for consultations.

  • Who does this clinic care for?

    This clinic cares for patients with newly acquired fractures and other injuries of your bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments and soft tissues.

  • How do I access this service?

    If you have presented to the Emergency Department with an orthopaedic injury, you will be referred to the Fracture Clinic for further review. Please wait for our staff to contact you for an appointment.

    If your injury was diagnosed by your regular GP, your GP needs to phone the hospital and ask to speak to the on-call Orthopaedics Registrar.

  • What do I bring to an appointment?

    Please bring your Medicare card.

    Please bring any old x-rays and other documentation of previous orthopaedic care by other clinicians.

  • How do I refer my patient to the Fracture Clinic?

    Patients should only be referred to the Fracture Clinic after review in the emergency department for an acute injury.

    If you are a GP and you have diagnosed your patient with an orthopaedic injury, please call the hospital reception and ask to speak to the on-call Orthopaedic Registrar.

  • Referral template and guidelines

    If your patient has presented to ED with an orthopaedic injury, your patient can be referred to SWH Fracture Clinic using the appropriate referral form.

    If you are a GP and have identified an orthopaedic injury, please phone SWH switchboard on 5563 1666 and ask to speak to the on-call orthopaedic registrar.
