How to access this service

The Cancer Link Nurse can be initially contacted by patients, family members or friends, GP, your surgeon, chemotherapy staff, nursing, medical and allied health staff, your oncologist or haematologist.

  • What is a Cancer Link nurse?

    Registered nurse specially trained to manage the care of cancer patients throughout the course of their treatment. Has experience and knowledge in the specialist areas of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, clinical trials and disease progression in both regional and metropolitan settings. Is able to provide support to patients and their families.

  • What can the Cancer Link Nurse provide?

    Support at diagnosis, during treatment and into survivorship. Information and education for people affected by cancer and their families. Assistance with linking people into support services such as allied health, counselling and support, transport and accommodation services. Assistance for people to understand their diagnosis of cancer Information regarding cancer treatment including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy and clinical trials. Explanation about specific tests that people may need to undergo. Links between services to assist people to manage their treatment and refer onto allied health and other support services as required. Links with other health care providers to receive treatment.

  • Where can services be provided?

    In person, by telephone, in hospital or at an outpatient clinic.
