In 2018, it took just 15 weeks to garner the community support needed to buy Western Victoria its first prostate cancer detector (formerly known as a Transperineal Ultrasound MRI Integrated System… or TPUS, for short) to save local men having to travel away for their prostate cancer biopsies. It came all the way from the US, was only the second of its kind in Australia, and was the first of its kind in an Australian public hospital. Eight years on, we want to update this equipment that enables targeted tumour biopsies, reduces the risks of post-procedural infection and improves patient outcomes.
1 in 5 local men will be affected by prostate cancer by the time they turn 85. We’re committed to continuing to provide the best diagnostics, treatments and care for them, right here where they live. And we need your help to do it.
Already, generous people are stepping up. The very first donations to come in include $500 from the Kirky Cooks, $1,124.30 from the staff at Warrnambool East Primary School, $5,000 from the members of the Rotary Club of Warrnambool East and $2,000 from an anonymous couple at Mortlake. It’s a fabulous start and we couldn’t be happier.
