Junior Medical Officers

South West Healthcare has a proactive approach to expanding the number of Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) to meet the needs of our hospital and community.

JMO’s are supported by:

South West Health offers a range of Accredited Registrar positions that are accredited with the relevant colleges as well as a number of Unaccredited Registrar positions. The Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) has accredited all of our 17 intern and 20 Postgraduate Year 2 positions.

South West Healthcare also works closely with the Victorian Rural Generalist Program to provide opportunities for Rural Generalist registrars to develop advanced skills in the areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Mental Health and Emergency Medicine.

South West Healthcare has developed long standing working relationships with several tertiary health services including St Vincent’s public, Barwon Health, Monash Health, and Western Health which many of our JMOs are on rotation from.

An increasing number of JMOs choose to stay at South West Healthcare or in the South West region for several years to establish their career before entering specialist or general practitioner training.

South West Healthcare has a number of opportunities for medical staff and staff specialists to join our team. We offer a supportive team environment with access to a 24/7 library (staffed on week days), opportunities for leadership progression, clinical trials and research facilities and teaching opportunities, as well as a dedicated regional cancer centre.
