Junior Medical Officers

South West Healthcare has a proactive approach to expanding the number of Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) to meet the needs of our hospital and community.

JMO’s are supported by:

  • Dr Grace Sousa – Interim Executive Director Medical Services
  • Jen Dorney – Manager Medical Workforce
  • Paula Conlan – Medical Workforce Coordinator
  • Dr Brendan Condon – Supervisor Intern Training (interns and PGY2 trainees)

Other senior staff providing professional support and clinical supervision include senior medical specialists and consultant Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) with expertise in:

  • General Surgery
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Paediatrics
  • Urology
  • ENT
  • Anaesthetics
  • Geriatric Medicine

South West Health offers a range of Accredited Registrar positions that are accredited with the relevant colleges as well as a number of Unaccredited Registrar positions. The Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) has accredited all of our 18 intern and 16 Postgraduate Year 2 positions.

South West Healthcare also works closely the Murray City Country Coast (MCCC) GP training to provide opportunities for General Practice Registrars to develop advanced skills in the areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine.

South West Healthcare has developed long standing working relationships with several tertiary health services including St Vincent’s public, Barwon Health and Western Health which many of our JMOs are on rotation from.

An increasing number of JMOs choose to stay at South West Healthcare or in the South West region for several years to establish their career before entering specialist or general practitioner training.
