CABRINI is the June-13 film our SWH Warrnambool Auxiliary is screening as it fundraises for three epidural-specific infusion pumps for our Maternity Unit.

The morning tea will be served from 10am, with the film starting at 11am. It’s a longer-than-usual film (2 hours & 25 minutes) so remember to get a four-hour Ozone Carpark spot (at the rear of the Capitol Cinema).

The $30 ticket includes the morning tea (special diets cannot be catered for) and the film. Please book your ticket/s by phoning Margot on 0455 029 125 (you then pay on the day). There’s also a terrific raffle.

CABRINI is based on the true life story of Mother Francesca Cabrini, the first American Saint to be recognized by the Catholic Church. Arriving in New York City in 1889, the Italian immigrant is greeted by disease, crime and impoverished children. She soon sets off on a daring mission to convince the mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society’s most vulnerable. With broken English and poor health, Cabrini uses her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope. Transcending cultural barriers, she establishes schools, orphanages, and healthcare facilities addressing the essential needs of Italian immigrants. In 1909 she becomes a US citizen. In 1917 she dies of endocarditis. In 1946 she’s canonized by Pope Pius XII.

Her inspirational quote from the movie? ‘We can serve our weakness or we can serve our purpose. Not both.’
