We are pleased to announce that Nicholson Construction Pty Ltd have been appointed as the principal builder for the much-anticipated redevelopment of South West Healthcare’s Mental Health Acute Inpatient Unit (MHAIU), located on Hider Street, Warrnambool.

Standing in front of what will soon be a brand-new mental health high-dependency wing at South West Healthcare, the mental health team are beyond excited to see the carefully thought-out design come to life in the new year! The project will see an addition of five new acute mental health beds, increasing South West Healthcare’s capacity from 15 to 20 beds. In addition, the MHAIU will undergo significant expansion and refurbishment to enhance the model of care and create more supportive, inclusive environments for vulnerable consumers including women, older adults and people who identify as LGBTQI+.

Nicholson Construction, well regarded for their commitment to excellence in commercial construction, is the trusted builder for this critical project. Their track record of successful project delivery, particularly within the healthcare and aged care sectors make them the ideal partner.

The works at the MHAIU, set to commence in early 2025 will be in line with the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, aiming to improve mental health services and recovery outcomes for local service users. The upgraded facility will provide a contemporary, therapeutic treatment setting, ensuring better outcomes for people experiencing and living with mental health impacts.

The Mental Health Acute Inpatient Unit will remain operational during the construction period and will continue to support the Warrnambool and wider South-West region
