Known fondly as the Banksia Room, generous donations (much of it gifted by the We’ve Got You and Sylvie’s Sunshine charities) have led to the creation of a purpose-built calm, safe and supportive environment. The homelike space will provide a sanctuary for those grieving whilst allowing us to provide hospital care.
‘The Banksia Room will allow families the opportunity to be able to stay together, to support and care for each other during this devastating time. Evidence suggests a purpose-built bereavement room allows a family, extended family and friends to come together in a more relaxing environment, providing much-needed support to commence the healing process,’ SWH CEO Craig Fraser told those gathered.
A serene and calming sage-green color was chosen to paint the walls of this coastal-themed room that comes complete with artwork sensitive to cultural beliefs. An oversize-bed, a sofa that folds out into a double-bed, a kitchenette and a private bathroom all add to this tranquil space to support families to grieve in privacy, and to commence the healing process of their loss. Everyone in attendance was thrilled with the outcome of this unique community collaboration.
