As we warned in our social media updates on Friday, a cluster grows before it slows

Three close contacts of a Warrnambool resident yesterday confirmed to be COVID-positive have today been confirmed to also have coronavirus. One of these people, a man in his 50s, is in a satisfactory condition in our Warrnambool Base Hospital intensive care unit. The others are isolating at home. All of these people are from the same cluster and the COVID-19 tracing team is following up on other people who may ultimately also be deemed to be close contacts.

SWH CEO Craig Fraser says he expects to see further cases emerge from this cluster but only time will tell as people’s test results become known.

While SWH will, as always, continue to keep the community informed about developments it will not, at this stage, provide any further comment on the status of these patients.

‘Warrnambool has done a fantastic job at keeping COVID-19 at bay and we need to continue to do the things that help keep transmissions from occurring. That is, adhere to stage 3 restrictions including wearing a mask, physical distancing, hand hygiene and minimising your movements wherever possible,’ Craig says.

‘We’ve seen significant cluster events occur in Melbourne, Geelong and Colac in recent weeks and we must do everything we can to stop a similar large transmission spreading in and around Warrnambool. If you feel unwell please stay at home and if your symptoms are consistent with coronavirus get tested.

‘We’re still in a really strong position in our part of the south west region, we’re committed to keeping our communities safe and we appreciate every single person’s assistance to help do this.’

No matter how mild, if you have any coronavirus symptoms (fever, chills, a cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of sense of smell or taste) call SWH’s symptomatic Respiratory Assessment Clinic on 5563 1666 to make an appointment.
